Rupee and Ricardo Drue cap off an amazing Caribbean Festival 2015

August 2015 is now the biggest month for Soca music to date in the province of Alberta.

Albertans were treated at the start of the month to Edmonton's vibrant downtown parade, and later a capacity show featuring Soca Supertar, Kerwin Du Bois for the annual Cariwest festival.

The following weekend 'Standard' nightclub in Calgary even played host to a capacity rooftop patio/nightclub Soca and Reggae party, and this weekend the energy continued with Calgary's annual Caribbean festival, Carifest.  Mother nature smiled on masqueraders as they partied up 8th avenue and into Shaw Millennium Park on Saturday. The free 'Sunshine Festival' kept the atmosphere going with food, drink and music until 7pm.

CalgarySoca proudly presented this year's 'Monarchs' fete, at Flames Central with crowd favourites, Rupee and Ricardo Drue.  International Groovy Soca Monarch, Olatunji Yearwood was also scheduled to perform but unfortunately never made it into the city.  Organizers were told by his management that he was 'under medical supervision' and wouldn't be able to attend just hours before the show.

That didn't hinder the party's atmosphere as both Rupee and Ricardo Drue expertly took fans through all of their hits and kept the room electrified up until 2 am alongside DJs Barrie Hype, Soca Sweetness and Jester. That still wasn't enough for some as over 300 party goers immediately left 'Monarchs' and filled CalgarySoca's first ever breakfast fete, at the aptly named 'Vagabond'.  DJs played music there straight up until dawn.

Huge thanks to all of the organizers, venues, volunteers, masqueraders, performers and patrons that helped make this entire month so memorable for Alberta and more specifically, Alberta Soca fans.
